Upon completion of a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at Vanderbilt and a subsequent Microsurgery Fellowship, Dr. Thayer joined the Vanderbilt Plastic Surgery faculty in 2008. Dr. Thayer is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Widely published, Dr. Thayer has articles featured in the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Journal of Surgical Research, the Journal of Neuroscience Research, Annals of Plastic Surgery, and several others. He has presented internationally on a variety of topics focusing on enhancing healing outcomes.
Recently, Dr. Thayer was awarded the Basic Science Award by the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and an Outstanding Research Award by the Association for Academic Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Thayer has been honored by Nashville Lifestyles Magazine as Hero of the Year for patient care.
Dr. Thayer’s cosmetic practice specializes in breast and abdominal/body contouring, and facial aesthetics. Additionally, TOPS surgery and feminine rejuvenation are of special interest.
In his spare time, Dr. Thayer enjoys research on healing in the aged population and is developing new models to study healing, which could lead to better outcomes in older patients. He also devotes time for nerve repair research, focusing on improving healing for our wounded warriors.
